Large LED Bathroom Mirrors — 900mm and Above
Large LED Bathroom Mirrors — 900mm and Above
Large-format LED bathroom mirrors — those at 900mm or above in their primary dimension — are the appropriate specification for master bathrooms, double vanities, hotel rooms, and any room where the mirror is expected to function as a significant design element as well as a practical fitting. The scale of these mirrors changes both their visual impact and their structural requirements, and trade buyers should understand both before specifying.
VUELUXE’s tallest formats are the 950mm arch models (VLM-07 and VLM-08); the VLM-04 is the 700mm round back-lit model. This page covers the VLM-04 specification in detail, the weight and wall-fixing requirements for large mirrors, the tile clearance considerations relevant to large-format installations, and the double vanity application where large mirrors are most commonly specified.

VLM-04 Specification — 700mm Round Back-lit
The VLM-04 is VUELUXE’s largest round mirror. At 900mm diameter, it is the standard specification for master ensuites with 900mm or wider vanities, hotel rooms where the mirror serves as the primary light source, and any bathroom where a large, luminous focal point above the vanity is the design brief. At 30W, it is also the highest-output mirror in the VUELUXE range.

The 30W output at 900mm diameter produces a halo that is noticeably brighter and wider than the 18W VLM-02. At full brightness and 6500K, the VLM-04 provides sufficient illumination to serve as the primary and only light source in a master ensuite of up to approximately 5–6 square metres, without requiring supplementary downlighting above the vanity. This is a meaningful specification advantage in bathrooms designed with a minimal ceiling fixture approach.

Master Bathroom Applications
The master bathroom is where the VLM-04 is most frequently specified. Master bathrooms in contemporary Australian residential construction typically have 900mm to 1200mm single vanities, 2400mm or 2700mm ceilings, and a design brief that calls for at least one premium fixture as a visual anchor. The 950mm arch formats above a 900mm single vanity are the most common application.
At 900mm diameter above a 900mm wide vanity, the mirror sits at parity with the vanity width — the circular edge aligns with the ends of the vanity bench, creating a vertical relationship between bench and mirror that reads as resolved. This proportion is less comfortable with a 1200mm vanity, where the 900mm mirror underhangs the bench by 150mm on each side — a gap that can read as underscaled. For 1200mm vanities, a two-mirror approach or a wider rectangular format may be the more appropriate specification.
The VLM-04 in brushed gold is the most frequently specified large-format mirror in luxury residential bathrooms within the VUELUXE range. The warm metallic frame suits the material palette of master bathroom briefs — natural stone, warm timber, brushed gold tapware — and the large halo diameter creates a proportionally generous ambient contribution to the room at both warm and cool CCT settings.
Double Vanity Applications
Double vanities — typically 1200mm to 1500mm wide with two basins — raise a specific mirror specification decision: one large mirror centred above the full vanity, or two smaller mirrors positioned above each basin. Each approach has different spatial, design, and practical implications.
Single Large Mirror Above a Double Vanity
A single 900mm round mirror centred above a 1200mm double vanity creates a visual anchor in the middle of the mirror wall, with the basins positioned symmetrically below it. This approach works best when the design brief prioritises a strong central composition — hotel-like, formal, and centred. The drawback is that a single 900mm mirror does not cover the full width of a 1200mm vanity, leaving the outer basins with the user’s face partly outside the reflective area if standing directly in front of either basin.
For double vanity applications where both users need adequate mirror coverage, a single large mirror works better if it is a rectangular or wide oval format that covers more of the vanity width. The VLFR-01 round framed at 800mm wide provides more horizontal coverage than the VLM-04 round at 700mm diameter, despite being nominally narrower, because the oval’s 800mm width is a consistent horizontal dimension while the circle’s effective width narrows toward the top and bottom.
Two Mirrors Above a Double Vanity
Two mirrors positioned above each basin — typically two VLM-02 at 700mm, two VLM-04 at 700mm, or two VLM-07 arch mirrors — each centred above its respective basin, provides complete mirror coverage for both users simultaneously. This approach allows each user to see their full reflection without moving to the centre of the vanity.
For a 1200mm double vanity with two 600mm-wide basins, two VLM-07 arch mirrors at 600mm wide are a particularly well-resolved specification — each mirror aligns exactly with the basin width below it, creating a formal vertical grid from bench to mirror that reads as architecturally considered. For the double vanity sizing decision in detail, the guide at /led-bathroom-mirrors/one-mirror-vs-two-double-vanity/ covers both approaches with diagram references.
Hotel Room Applications
Hotel bathrooms require mirrors that can withstand high-frequency use — multiple guests per week, daily cleaning, occasional rough handling during servicing — while maintaining a premium appearance for the duration of the hotel’s refurbishment cycle. The VLM-04 in brushed gold or brushed black is the standard large-format specification for hotel rooms in the VUELUXE range.
At 30W, the VLM-04 provides enough light output to eliminate the need for separate vanity downlights in many hotel bathroom configurations, which simplifies the electrical design and reduces points of failure. The CCT tunability means the hotel can specify a default CCT at installation (typically 3000K or 4000K, a neutral white suited to general use) while retaining full CCT range for the guest to adjust.

Weight Considerations for Large Mirrors
A 900mm round LED mirror with a 35mm frame and 5mm glass is a substantial fitting. The approximate weight of the VLM-04 is in the range of 8–10kg — not so heavy as to require special wall fixing engineering, but heavy enough that the wall substrate and fixing point selection matter.
For installation on a tiled plasterboard wall — the standard bathroom wall construction in Australian residential building — the mirror must be fixed into the wall studs behind the plasterboard rather than relying on plasterboard anchors alone. A 10kg mirror fixed only into plasterboard with standard toggle bolts is at risk of progressive pull-out as the plasterboard compresses under the sustained load over time. VUELUXE installation guides specify stud fixing for all large-format mirrors.
For installation on a tiled masonry wall — common in commercial and hotel applications — standard masonry anchors of the appropriate size are sufficient, and stud location is not relevant. The masonry provides adequate substrate for the fixing load.
Wall Fixing Requirements
The VLM-04 mounting system uses a two-point wall bracket. The bracket points are spaced to distribute the mirror weight symmetrically. For the installation to be compliant with the mounting load requirements, both fixing points must engage with a solid substrate — either stud timber or masonry behind the tile.
The tile contractor should confirm stud positions before tiling if the mirror is to be installed on a tiled plasterboard wall. Post-tile stud location requires a stud finder sensitive enough to locate framing through tile and adhesive — typically 12–15mm of combined tile and adhesive thickness. Some stud finders are not sensitive enough to locate framing at this combined depth, and it is worth confirming with the installer before the mirror is on site.
In cases where stud positions do not align with the required mirror mounting positions, a structural backing plate of plywood or similar behind the plasterboard, screw-fixed to the studs on either side, provides a continuous fixing zone that eliminates stud-alignment dependency. This approach requires planning at the framing stage, not at mirror installation.
Tile Clearance for Large-Format Mirrors
For 900mm+ round mirrors installed above tiled vanity walls, tile layout should account for the mirror position before tiling begins. A 900mm round mirror centred on a 900mm wide vanity wall will have its edge at approximately 900mm from each side of the vanity — if the tile pattern has a cut tile at this position, the cut tile will be visible on either side of the mirror when the mirror is removed (for maintenance or at the end of its service life). While this is not a functional issue, it is a workmanship consideration that some clients and certifiers notice.
The mirror should also be positioned so its mounting bracket holes align with grout lines rather than tile faces where possible. This is not always achievable given stud positions, but where it can be coordinated, it produces a neater installation where the mirror sits with no tile drilled through.
Certifications and Specification Documentation
The VLM-04 carries SAA and RCM certification for the Australian market. All VUELUXE large-format mirrors are IP44 rated for Zone 2 bathroom installation. Certification documentation, specification sheets, and installation guides are available on request.
How to Specify Large LED Mirrors
When preparing a specification for large LED mirrors across a project, confirm the following:
- Vanity width per room (to confirm VLM-04 700mm is proportionally correct, or whether a wider format is needed)
- Single or double vanity per room (affects whether one or two mirrors are required)
- Wall substrate (plasterboard or masonry — affects fixing method)
- Frame finish (brushed black or brushed gold)
- Quantity per room type and total project quantity
- Delivery address and required delivery date
