What size LED mirror for a 1200mm vanity?

What size LED mirror for a 1200mm vanity?

For a 1200mm vanity, specify a 900–1000mm single mirror or two 600mm mirrors positioned side by side. The VLM-04 (700×700mm) is the most common single-mirror choice for this vanity size. Two VLM-02s (700×700mm each) is the standard double-vanity spec where independent lighting zones are required.

Single mirror vs two mirrors on a 1200mm vanity

The decision comes down to the vanity configuration — single basin or double basin. A 1200mm vanity with a single centred basin reads well with one 900mm mirror. A 1200mm vanity with two basins should be specified with two mirrors, one above each basin. The asymmetry of one mirror above a double-basin vanity is a common builder error that consistently looks off once installed.

If the project is a single-basin 1200mm vanity (common in master ensuites with a long bench format), the VLM-04 at 700mm gives a 150mm margin on each side — proportionally correct without being tight. A 1000mm mirror on a 1200mm vanity is at the wider end of the acceptable range; it works but leaves less margin and requires precise centring during installation.

Why the VLM-04 is the standard spec here

The VLM-04 is 700×700mm, 30W, with dual CCT (2700K/4000K), integrated demister, and the same halo-lit sandblasted edge construction as the VLM-02. It is proportionally designed for master ensuites and premium residential builds where the 700mm VLM-02 reads as slightly undersized. At 900mm over a 1200mm vanity, the visual weight is right — the mirror anchors the space without overwhelming it.

Weight is 6.8kg. Same keyhole-slot fixing system. Same dual power connection option (GPO plug or hardwire pigtail). For a 1200mm vanity install, stud fixing is strongly preferred given the increased mirror mass versus the VLM-02.

Two 600mm mirrors — when that’s the better call

Two mirrors over a double-basin 1200mm vanity creates a hotel-spec symmetrical installation. Each mirror sits centred above its basin, and each user gets their own light source without interference. This is standard specification for:

  • Hotel and serviced apartment bathrooms
  • Master ensuites with separate his/hers sinks
  • Luxury residential builds where the client specifically requests the paired look

Two 600mm round mirrors on a 1200mm vanity places each mirror centred at 300mm from each end, with a 0–50mm gap between mirrors depending on exact basin spacing. This requires careful measurement at rough-in — mark both mirror centres before tiling is complete if possible.

For more detail on the single vs two mirror decision across different vanity sizes, see the double vanity mirror guide.

Rectangular mirrors on 1200mm vanities

A rectangular mirror covering most of the 1200mm width (1000–1100mm wide) is common in contemporary bathrooms where the brief calls for a full-width look. These work well above a single long basin with a wall-mounted tap. The tradeoff is that rectangular mirrors require more precise horizontal levelling and leave less flexibility if the vanity position shifts during construction.

The large mirror range covers rectangular and oversized oval formats suitable for 1200mm+ vanities. For projects where the mirror is a key design element rather than a standard fitting, these are worth specifying early — lead times on larger formats can extend beyond standard stock items.

Height and electrical considerations

For the VLM-04, centre height is typically 1620–1650mm from finished floor — slightly higher than the VLM-02 because the 900mm diameter means the base of the mirror lands at 1170–1200mm, which clears the tiled splashback zone cleanly. Confirm GPO or conduit position before tiling. For two-mirror installs, each mirror needs its own power connection — two GPOs or two hardwire points, positioned behind each mirror.

Summary

  • 1200mm vanity: specify 900–1000mm single mirror or two 600mm mirrors
  • VLM-04 (700×700mm, 30W) is the standard single-mirror spec
  • Double-basin vanity: always specify two mirrors, one above each basin
  • Two-mirror installs need two independent power connections
  • Stud fixing preferred for VLM-04 at 6.8kg
