Arch vs round LED mirror — when to choose each
Arch vs round LED mirror — when to choose each
Choose arch (VLM-07) for feature bathrooms and luxury residential. Choose round (VLM-02 or VLM-04) for standard builds and volume projects. Arch mirrors cost more, take longer to specify, and have a narrower fit range — they are a conscious design choice, not a default specification.
What the arch shape does
The arch (Cathedral arch) format is taller than wide. The VLM-07 is 600mm wide by 900mm tall — a strong vertical presence that draws the eye upward and creates a defined focal point on the bathroom wall. In a room with ceiling heights of 2.7m or more, the arch format uses the vertical space effectively. In a compact ensuite with a 2.4m ceiling, it can feel imposing.
The arch reads as a deliberate design decision. Clients and buyers notice it. It is more likely to appear in specification sheets that have gone through a designer’s review than in volume builder standard fittings schedules. That is not a criticism — it reflects the mirror’s purpose. It is a feature piece, and it should be specified when the brief calls for one.
What the round shape does
Round mirrors are design-neutral and proportionally forgiving. A 700mm or 900mm round mirror works in contemporary, Hamptons, coastal, minimalist, and transitional bathroom styles. It does not require a design conversation because it does not make a strong statement on its own — it anchors the vanity cleanly and gets out of the way of the rest of the room.
For volume residential — project homes, multi-unit builds, townhouse developments — round is the correct default. It is stocked, it is fast, it fits the widest range of ensuites and main bathrooms, and it satisfies most homeowner expectations without requiring an upgrade conversation.
Where arch mirrors fit and where they do not
The VLM-07 arch is 600mm wide. That means it is proportionally suited to vanities in the 750–900mm range — the 600mm width gives 75–150mm margin on each side over a standard vanity. It does not suit wide double vanities (1200mm+) as a single centred mirror — the 600mm width is visually undersized over a wide bench.
The arch format also requires more vertical wall clearance. At 900mm tall, it needs to clear the top of the tile splashback and avoid conflict with ceiling-mounted downlights. Confirm electrical and tile setout before specifying the VLM-07 on a project where the ceiling height or tile layout is constrained.
Best-fit contexts for the arch:
- Feature master ensuite in a custom or luxury build
- Hotel guestroom ensuite where design differentiation is specified
- Powder room where a statement piece is appropriate in a small space
- Boutique residential development where the bathroom is a selling feature
Specification differences between VLM-07 and VLM-02
Both mirrors use the same halo-lit LED construction, dual CCT (2700K/4000K), CRI 90+, and integrated demister. The differences are in physical form only:
- VLM-07: 550×950mm, Cathedral arch profile, brushed gold aluminium frame standard
- VLM-02: 700×700mm diameter, circular, available in brushed black or brushed gold frame
The VLM-07 uses brushed gold as the standard frame finish because the arch form is most commonly specified in warm-toned, high-end bathroom contexts. If a project requires brushed black arch mirrors, confirm availability with VUELUXE at time of ordering — custom frame finishes may carry a lead time extension.
The volume vs feature framing
One useful way to frame this decision in a builder or designer context: round is the spec you use when you do not want the mirror to be a conversation. Arch is the spec you use when you do want the mirror to be a conversation. Both are correct answers — the question is which one suits the project.
For volume builders running 50+ lots, the VLM-02 round is the standard fitting. For the same builder’s prestige series or feature ensuites, the VLM-07 arch becomes a legitimate upgrade specification to offer as an optional extra. The price difference between the two makes that an achievable conversation with the client.
