Best LED mirror for ensuites

Best LED mirror for ensuites

For a compact ensuite, specify the VLM-02 (700mm round). For a master ensuite, specify the VLM-04 (700mm round). Demister is standard spec for all ensuites — daily shower steam makes it a functional requirement, not an upgrade. CCT tunable is the preferred specification: 2700K for a warm, relaxed evening feel, 4000K for accurate morning grooming light.

Why demister is non-optional in ensuites

An ensuite mirror without a demister fogs during and after every shower. This is not a minor inconvenience — it makes the mirror non-functional for its primary use at the most common use time (immediately after showering, when most people use the mirror for grooming). A fogged mirror that clears after 15–20 minutes is a specification failure in any ensuite bathroom.

The demister pad in VUELUXE mirrors is a thermostatically controlled low-wattage heating element bonded to the rear of the mirror glass. It maintains the glass surface temperature above the dew point, preventing condensation before it forms. It is not a device that clears fog after the fact — it prevents fog forming at all. Both the VLM-02 and VLM-04 include the demister as standard across the full range. There is no demister-off SKU at VUELUXE.

CCT tunable — why it matters in ensuites

An ensuite is used at two distinct times of day for two different tasks. In the morning, grooming tasks — shaving, makeup application, skincare — require accurate, high-CCT light (4000K, daylight tone) that shows detail clearly and renders skin tones accurately. In the evening — winding down before bed, night skincare — warm light (2700K) is more comfortable and does not interrupt circadian rhythm the way cool light does.

A single fixed CCT mirror forces a compromise — either too cool for evening comfort or too warm for morning precision. CCT tunable (switchable between 2700K and 4000K) gives the user the correct light for each task. VUELUXE mirrors use dual CCT as standard — the switch cycles between both colour temperatures. No additional dimmer or controller required.

Compact ensuite — VLM-02 specification

A compact ensuite typically has a 750–900mm vanity, a shower recess, and limited floor area. The VLM-02 at 700mm diameter is proportionally correct for this layout. Key specification points:

  • Size: 700×700mm
  • Weight: 4.2kg — stud fix preferred, butterfly anchors acceptable for plasterboard
  • LED: 18W, halo-lit, CRI 90+, dual CCT 2700K/4000K
  • Demister: included as standard
  • Power: 1.5m AU plug cord + hardwire pigtail in box
  • Mounting: keyhole slots, no visible hardware

In a compact ensuite where the shower screen is close to the vanity, the VLM-02’s 700mm diameter stays within the vanity footprint and does not create a clearance conflict with the shower door or screen frame.

Master ensuite — VLM-04 specification

A master ensuite typically has a 1200mm vanity (single or double basin), a larger floor area, and a higher design expectation. The VLM-04 at 700mm diameter is the standard master ensuite specification:

  • Size: 700×700mm
  • Weight: 6.8kg — stud fix strongly preferred
  • LED: 30W, halo-lit, CRI 90+, dual CCT 2700K/4000K
  • Demister: included as standard
  • Power: 1.5m AU plug cord + hardwire pigtail in box
  • Mounting: keyhole slots, no visible hardware

The VLM-04’s back-glow at 700mm diameter produces softer ambient light output than the 18W VLM-02 — in a larger master ensuite where the mirror is the primary light source supplementing the ceiling fitting, the additional wattage makes a visible difference to the overall lighting quality of the room.

Ensuite height placement

Standard mirror centre height for ensuites is 1600–1650mm from finished floor. For VLM-02 (700mm diameter), centre at 1600mm places the base at 1250mm and the top at 1950mm — above tiled splashback, below standard 2400mm ceiling, clear of most downlight positions. For VLM-04 (700mm diameter), centre at 1620mm places the base at 1170mm and the top at 2070mm — confirm no conflict with ceiling downlights before installation.

Electrical rough-in for ensuite mirrors

Mark the GPO or conduit position before tiling. For GPO (plug-in), position 150mm above the intended base height of the mirror, centred on the vanity. For hardwire, position conduit exit at the same location. The 1.5m cord on both VLM-02 and VLM-04 gives adequate reach from a GPO at this position to the mirror connection point. Confirm the rough-in position with the electrician before tiling commences.

See the round mirror range for full technical specifications and the demister technology page for detail on how the demister pad operates and its energy consumption.

Summary

  • Compact ensuite: VLM-02 (700mm, 18W)
  • Master ensuite: VLM-04 (700mm, back-lit)
  • Demister: always specify for ensuites — daily shower steam makes it essential
  • Dual CCT (2700K/4000K): standard on all VUELUXE mirrors — use warm for evening, cool for grooming
  • Mark electrical rough-in before tiling — GPO or hardwire, centred behind mirror at correct height
