Are VUELUXE mirrors AS/NZS compliant?

Yes — all VUELUXE models carry RCM (Regulatory Compliance Mark) certification. RCM certification requires compliance with AS/NZS 60598 (luminaire safety), AS/NZS 61347 (driver safety), and CISPR 15 (electromagnetic compatibility). IP44 test reports are available to trade account holders on request. Full compliance documentation — including the RCM certificate, ERAC registration number, and IP44 test report — is provided on request and can be included in project documentation submitted to building certifiers.

What the RCM mark actually confirms

The RCM mark (Regulatory Compliance Mark) is Australia’s unified mark for electrical and electronic products. A product carrying a valid RCM mark has been: tested to the applicable Australian standards by an accredited laboratory, assessed by a registered entity for compliance, and registered on the ERAC (Electrical Regulatory Authorities Council) database. The supplier’s ERAC registration can be verified at the ERAC public database — search by supplier name or registration number.

VUELUXE’s ERAC registration number is available on the compliance documentation provided on request. Trade account holders who need to include the ERAC registration number in project documentation can request it via the trade portal or by email to the VUELUXE compliance team.

Standards covered by VUELUXE certification

AS/NZS 60598.1 and AS/NZS 60598.2.1 (luminaire safety — general requirements and fixed general purpose luminaires): these standards cover the electrical safety of the luminaire — insulation, creepage distances, thermal limits, and mechanical strength. The mirror is classified as a fixed luminaire under this standard.

AS/NZS 61347.1 and AS/NZS 61347.2.13 (lamp control gear safety — general requirements and DC or AC supplied electronic control gear for LED modules): these standards cover the safety of the driver unit inside the mirror — the component that converts mains voltage to the low-voltage DC supply for the LED strip. Driver safety is the most critical compliance element in an LED mirror, as a non-compliant driver is a fire risk.

CISPR 15 (electromagnetic disturbance limits and measurement methods for electrical lighting): this standard covers electromagnetic emissions from the LED driver — ensuring the mirror does not interfere with other electrical equipment, including home automation systems, smart home devices, and nearby appliances.

IP44 test reports

IP44 testing is conducted by an accredited laboratory and tests the mirror’s resistance to solid particles (IP first digit: 4 = protection against objects larger than 1mm) and liquids (IP second digit: 4 = protection against water splashing from any direction). The test report documents the specific test conditions, the mirror model tested, and the result.

IP44 test reports are available to trade account holders for all current VUELUXE models. The report can be included in project compliance documentation where a building certifier requests physical evidence of the IP rating — rather than relying solely on the supplier’s product label. Certifiers on commercial and multi-residential projects increasingly request test reports rather than accepting self-declared ratings.

Non-compliant mirrors in the market

The Australian market contains a significant volume of LED mirrors with fraudulent or self-declared RCM marks. A self-declared RCM mark means the supplier printed the mark on the product or packaging without having the product tested by an accredited laboratory. There is no ERAC registration to verify. The product has not been independently assessed for electrical safety, fire risk, or IP rating performance.

A fraudulent RCM mark looks identical to a genuine one. The only way to distinguish a genuine mark from a fraudulent one is to: (1) check the ERAC database for the supplier’s registration, and (2) request the test report from an accredited laboratory. If the supplier cannot provide an ERAC registration number and a laboratory test report, the RCM mark is self-declared and should not be accepted.

What builders and specifiers need for compliance

For a standard residential project, the electrician’s compliance certificate (CES, CCEW, or COC depending on state) is the primary compliance document. The mirror’s RCM certification and IP44 rating are the underlying product compliance that supports the electrician’s certificate.

For commercial projects, multi-residential projects, and aged care, the certifier may request: the RCM certificate for the luminaire, the ERAC registration number, the IP44 test report, and in some cases the AS/NZS 60598 test report. VUELUXE can provide all of these for current models. Request the full compliance documentation package at the time of specification — do not wait until the certifier requests it during inspection.

Compliance documentation for architects

Architects specifying VUELUXE mirrors can request a compliance documentation package suitable for insertion into the project documentation set. This package includes the RCM certificate, ERAC registration number, relevant standard numbers, IP44 test report reference, and the VUELUXE warranty statement. The package is formatted for inclusion in NCC Section J documentation or equivalent project specification formats.
