LED Bathroom Mirror Lead Times Australia — Builder Planning Guide

LED Bathroom Mirror Lead Times Australia — Builder Planning Guide

Mirrors are a late-stage bathroom fitting — installed after tiling is complete and wall surfaces are finished — but they need to be ordered well before that stage. Understanding the difference between stock lead times and made-to-order lead times, combined with freight transit times to your state, allows you to schedule the purchase order at the right point in the project program. This guide provides the numbers you need to build an accurate procurement schedule. For a broader overview of planning resources, return to the guides hub.

Stock vs Made-to-Order: Understanding the Difference

In-Stock Products

VUELUXE maintains a standing stock of its most common sizes, shapes, and finishes in the Australian warehouse. In-stock mirrors are available for same-day or next-business-day dispatch once a confirmed purchase order is received and payment terms are satisfied. The transit time from dispatch to site is the only variable — the warehouse holding time is zero.

Stock levels fluctuate based on project demand and container replenishment cycles. Before committing to an in-stock delivery timeline in a builder program or project schedule, confirm current availability with the VUELUXE trade account team. High-volume periods — typically the second quarter of the calendar year and the lead-up to December — can temporarily reduce or exhaust stock of popular configurations.

For a standard project with common size and finish requirements, in-stock supply with one to two weeks procurement lead time is a reasonable planning assumption for most states. Western Australia and the Northern Territory should add the additional freight days noted below.

Made-to-Order Products

Made-to-order mirrors are produced in response to a confirmed purchase order. This applies to custom sizes outside the standard range, non-standard frame finishes, special CCT configurations, or high-volume orders that exceed current stock levels. Made-to-order lead time is typically four to six weeks from confirmed order to departure from the factory, plus shipping and customs clearance for items produced in the current production cycle. For items that can be consolidated into a planned container shipment, the total lead time may be eight to twelve weeks from order to Australian warehouse.

Made-to-order timelines should be confirmed with the VUELUXE trade account team at the time of inquiry — production schedules and shipping consolidation timing vary. Do not assume made-to-order lead times without a written confirmation. For questions about the purchase order to delivery timeline, refer to the PO to delivery timeline FAQ.

Freight Transit Times by State

Once an order is dispatched from the VUELUXE warehouse, transit time depends on the destination state and the freight carrier’s current service schedule. The figures below are indicative for standard freight, not express or priority services. All times are from dispatch date, in business days.

Victoria (VIC)

Transit time: 1 business day for metropolitan Melbourne addresses. Regional Victoria may extend to 2 business days depending on the specific delivery postcode. VIC is the closest state to the VUELUXE dispatch point and represents the fastest and most reliable transit window. For projects in metropolitan Melbourne, same-day order and next-day delivery is achievable when stock is confirmed and the order is received before cut-off.

New South Wales (NSW) and South Australia (SA)

Transit time: 2–3 business days for metropolitan addresses in Sydney and Adelaide. Regional NSW and SA may extend by one additional day. Orders placed before the freight carrier’s cut-off time on a given business day will typically be on the road the same day, with metro delivery on day two or three.

Queensland (QLD)

Transit time: 2–3 business days for metropolitan Brisbane and surrounding areas. Far North Queensland, Cairns, and rural Queensland may extend to 4–5 business days. Confirm postcode-specific transit times with the freight carrier for regional QLD addresses on time-critical projects.

Western Australia (WA)

Transit time: 4–7 business days for Perth metropolitan and regional WA addresses. Western Australia is the longest freight leg from the east coast warehouse. Projects in WA require earlier purchase order placement than equivalent eastern states projects. Build a minimum one-week freight buffer into any WA project schedule, and confirm dispatch date with the trade team before communicating a delivery commitment to the site supervisor.

Northern Territory (NT) and Tasmania (TAS)

Transit time: 5–7 business days for Darwin and major NT towns. Tasmania is typically 5–7 business days including the Bass Strait freight leg. Both NT and TAS present longer and less predictable freight windows than mainland eastern states. Where project scheduling is tight in these jurisdictions, the order should be placed with an additional buffer of 2–3 business days beyond the indicative transit window.

For state-specific freight information and current service schedules, refer to the location hub. For frequently asked questions about shipping timeframes, see the shipping time FAQ.

Planning Mirror Delivery Around the Build Program

The two build stages that govern mirror delivery timing are frame-up and tiling completion. Understanding how mirrors relate to both stages avoids the two most common procurement errors: ordering too early (mirrors arrive on site before the space is ready, leading to storage damage) or ordering too late (mirrors arrive after the electrical rough-in is covered and the homeowner is already waiting for handover).

The Frame-Up Stage and Electrical Rough-In

For hardwire (pigtail) installations, the electrical rough-in must be completed during frame-up — before wall lining and tiling. This means the mirror specification must be confirmed before frame-up, because the rough-in cable exit position is determined by the mirror’s cable entry point. If the mirror specification changes after rough-in is complete — different size, different cable exit position — the electrician may need to return to move the conduit, which adds cost and delay.

Lock the mirror specification before frame-up. This does not mean the purchase order needs to be placed at frame-up — only that the size, connection type, and wall position must be finalised. The purchase order can follow once the project timeline is clear and the delivery window aligns with tiling completion.

Tiling Completion and Mirror Delivery Timing

Mirrors should be delivered to site no earlier than two to three days before the scheduled installation date. Receiving mirrors on site while wet trades are still active — grouting, sealing, or waterproofing — creates risk of carton damage, glass contamination from airborne compounds, and damage from site foot traffic. Bathroom mirrors are fragile goods and their cartons are not designed for extended site storage.

The optimal procurement sequence is: confirm specification at frame-up, place purchase order 2–3 weeks before tiling is due to complete (allowing buffer for stock confirmation and freight), schedule delivery for 2–3 days before the installation date. This avoids both early-delivery storage risk and last-minute procurement delays.

Multi-Bathroom Projects

For projects with multiple bathrooms — three or more — a single consolidated order is preferable to staggered smaller orders. Consolidated orders reduce freight costs per unit, allow batch matching for frame finish consistency, and simplify the invoice and warranty documentation trail. Place the consolidated order once all bathroom specifications are confirmed, even if not all bathrooms will be installed simultaneously. Mirrors can be received and stored under appropriate conditions for short periods.

For storage of mirrors received before the installation window, keep cartons flat (face up), off the floor on pallets or trestles, away from wet areas, and away from high-traffic movement paths. Do not stack other materials on top of mirror cartons.

Container Pre-Orders for Large Projects

For large projects — residential developments, hotel fit-outs, aged care facilities, or commercial bathroom projects — container pre-orders offer the most cost-effective and reliable supply path. A container pre-order is a confirmed purchase order placed against a specific production run, with the full quantity manufactured and shipped in a single container consignment to the buyer’s nominated warehouse or site.

Minimum Quantities

Container pre-orders are typically available from 50 units and above, depending on the configuration. Confirm minimum order quantities and per-unit pricing with the VUELUXE trade account team at inquiry stage. Container orders receive priority pricing, batch-matched production, and pre-shipment documentation including factory photos and test reports.

Pre-Shipment Documentation

Container orders include VUELUXE’s pre-shipment photo documentation process — factory-level photography of the production run, carton packing, and test report certificates before final payment is released. This process is described in full in the pre-shipment photo process guide. Pre-shipment documentation gives project managers and developers confidence in product quality before the container ships, reducing the risk of bulk defect discovery on arrival.

Lead Time for Container Orders

Container pre-orders require a minimum 10–14 week lead time from confirmed purchase order to Australian port arrival — typically 4–6 weeks production plus 3–4 weeks sea freight plus 1–2 weeks customs clearance and delivery. Large projects should initiate the container pre-order inquiry at the design development stage of the project — not at tender or construction commencement. Late container orders on large projects are the single most common cause of installation delays in the bathroom fit-out program.
