Can LED mirrors be installed horizontally and vertically?
Yes — most VUELUXE LED mirrors can be installed in either horizontal or vertical orientation, depending on the model. Round mirrors are symmetrical and work in any orientation by definition. The VLFR-01 round framed is designed for landscape (horizontal) installation but can be rotated to portrait (vertical) orientation with adjusted fixing. The VLM-07 arch is portrait-only — it cannot be installed horizontally without inverting the arch, which inverts the design intent entirely. Understanding which models are orientation-flexible, and which are not, is an important step in specification.
Round mirrors — fully orientation-agnostic
Round mirrors have radial symmetry and no inherent directionality. The LED strip runs around the entire perimeter of the circle. Mounting a round mirror in any rotational position produces the same result — the mirror looks the same, lights the same, and performs the same regardless of which point of the circle is at the top. This makes round mirrors uniquely flexible for bathroom layouts where the electrical connection point or mounting hardware position may not align with a standard orientation.
The symmetry of round mirrors also makes them the most forgiving specification for double-vanity applications where two mirrors need to be mounted consistently. Minor height differences between the two mounting positions are less visually apparent in a round mirror than in a rectangular or oval mirror where the frame lines are visible reference points. For builders mounting mirrors on freshly plastered walls where the fixing points may not be perfectly level, the round format provides tolerance that other shapes do not.
VLFR-01 round framed — landscape by design, portrait possible
The VLFR-01 round framed is designed to be installed in landscape orientation — the longer axis of the oval runs horizontally, the shorter axis vertically. This is the standard presentation in bathroom applications: a wider mirror provides more coverage of the face and upper body and aligns with the horizontal stretch of most vanity units. In landscape orientation, the VLFR-01 works as a feature mirror above a single or double vanity, or as a bathroom mirror in a powder room where the horizontal format maximises the perceived width of the space.
Rotating the VLFR-01 to portrait orientation is possible with adjusted fixing. The portrait oval provides a taller mirror with a narrower horizontal profile — this format works in bathrooms with a narrow vanity run, in ensuites with height-restricted shelf or vanity configurations, or as a deliberate design choice where the vertical emphasis is preferred. In portrait orientation, the oval references the standing-mirror and pier-glass tradition of period interiors, which can be appropriate in heritage renovation contexts or in bathrooms with a more classical design language.
The practical consideration when rotating the VLFR-01 to portrait is the electrical connection. If the connection emerges from the back of the mirror at a position designed for landscape installation, rotating to portrait may place the connection point at an awkward position relative to the wall rough-in. Discuss the intended orientation with the installing electrician before the rough-in stage, so the wall connection can be positioned for the planned installation orientation.
VLM-07 arch — portrait only
The VLM-07 arch has a portrait-only design by definition. The arched top is the defining form element — it faces upward in the installation. Inverting the mirror to place the arch at the bottom is not an appropriate installation; it inverts the design intent, reads as an error, and changes the visual weight distribution of the mirror in the bathroom. There is no landscape orientation for the VLM-07 arch.
For double-vanity applications where an arch mirror is specified, the appropriate approach is two portrait-oriented arch mirrors mounted in parallel — each centred above one basin within the double vanity. This is the same approach used in hotel suite bathrooms where a pair of portrait arch or rectangular mirrors provides individual mirror coverage for two users at a double vanity. The two-portrait-mirror approach has a strong design rationale: each user has their own full-height mirror, the mirrors are visually balanced, and the overall wall composition has clarity and intention.
Rectangular mirrors — orientation by specification
Rectangular LED mirrors are available in both landscape and portrait formats, but the format is determined at specification — it is not an installation choice. A rectangular mirror specified as 900×600mm (landscape) cannot be rotated to 550×950mm (portrait) and achieve the same result, because the proportions, the LED strip position, and the fixing hardware are all calibrated to the specified orientation. When specifying a rectangular LED mirror, the orientation needs to be confirmed as part of the specification, not resolved at installation.
For single vanities, landscape rectangular mirrors are the dominant specification — the horizontal format follows the width of the vanity unit and provides a practical frame for the task lighting function. For double vanities where two portrait mirrors are specified (the hotel suite convention), a landscape rectangular mirror spanning both basins is an alternative — the choice depends on the design intent and the availability of appropriate dimensions in the model range.
Double vanity conventions
The hotel and luxury residential convention for double vanities is two portrait-oriented mirrors — one per basin, individually centred. This approach is more practical than a single wide landscape mirror for two reasons. First, it ensures each user has a mirror centred on their reflection point without the other user appearing in their field of view. Second, it allows each mirror to be sized proportionally to the basin width, rather than having a single large mirror that spans a gap between two basins.
For double vanities where a single mirror is preferred — for example, a continuous vanity bench without a visual break between two basins — a wide landscape rectangular mirror in an appropriate width is the specification. VUELUXE can confirm available widths for the models in the current range to suit the vanity dimension.
