Can I remount an existing mirror in a new location?

Yes — VUELUXE mirrors can be remounted in a new location. The mirror itself has no limitations on remounting. The keyhole slot mounting system allows the mirror to be lifted off its wall anchors, transported, and rehung at the new position. Remounting requires re-marking the new position, verifying the wall substrate at the new location (timber stud preferred, or suitable wall anchors for masonry or plasterboard), and re-engaging a licensed electrician if the power connection changes at the new location. The electrical connection cannot be moved or modified by an unlicensed person.

When remounting is appropriate

Common remounting scenarios: a bathroom renovation where the vanity position changes, a mirror originally installed in a display bathroom being relocated to a completed unit, a client upgrade where an existing mirror is moved to a secondary bathroom and a new mirror installed in the primary location, and speculative builds where display home mirrors are removed and reused in production builds.

VUELUXE mirrors are designed for longevity — the frame, glass, and LED strip are all durable for 10+ years under normal use. A mirror that was correctly installed and carefully removed retains its full specification and warranty. Remounting does not affect the warranty as long as the remounting is done correctly by a licensed electrician for the electrical connection.

The remounting process

Step 1 — Disconnect the electrical connection. A licensed electrician must disconnect the mirror’s power supply before the mirror is removed. For hardwire mirrors, the electrician disconnects the supply cable at the junction box. For plug-in mirrors, unplug the cord. Do not attempt to access the junction box or move wiring without a licensed electrician.

Step 2 — Remove the mirror from the wall. VUELUXE keyhole slot mirrors lift off the wall anchors by lifting straight up — no unscrewing of the mirror itself is required. The mirror slides up and off the wall screws. For heavier mirrors (900×750mm and above), two people are needed for safe removal. Support the mirror fully before lifting — do not let the weight hang from one side.

Step 3 — Remove the wall anchors at the old location. The screws and anchors from the old position should be removed and the holes patched if the wall will be finished or painted. If the old position is being tiled over, the holes will be covered. If the wall remains exposed, fill and paint.

Step 4 — Mark the new position. Measure and mark the new mounting position as you would for a new installation. Use a spirit level to confirm the horizontal. Mark the keyhole anchor positions based on the mirror’s slot position — typically 40–60mm from the top edge of the mirror, and at the horizontal slot positions on the mirror backing.

Step 5 — Verify the wall substrate at the new location. Use a stud finder to locate timber framing. For masonry walls, standard masonry anchors are suitable. For plasterboard without a stud at the anchor location, use a toggle bolt rated for the mirror weight. VUELUXE provides anchor load ratings for each mirror model on request — confirm the anchor type before drilling.

Step 6 — Install anchors and hang mirror at new position. Drill pilot holes, install wall anchors or screw into studs, hang the mirror on the keyhole slots, use a spirit level to confirm level, and adjust using the keyhole slot’s lateral adjustment range (approximately 15mm) if needed.

Step 7 — Reconnect the electrical supply. A licensed electrician reconnects the power supply at the new location. For hardwire models, a new junction box position may be required if the conduit does not reach the new mirror location. This is an electrical rough-in task and must be completed by a licensed electrician before the mirror is connected. A new compliance certificate (CES, CCEW, or COC depending on state) is required for the new installation.

Transport between locations

For transport between sites, re-use the original packaging if available. If the original carton is not available, wrap the mirror face with bubble wrap, protect the frame corners with foam or cardboard, and transport the mirror standing upright — not flat. Flat transport concentrates the mirror weight on the frame corners and increases the risk of glass cracking from vibration. Stand the mirror on its bottom edge, supported on both sides, during vehicle transport.

Do not stack other items on top of a mirror during transport. Even light items can crack a mirror face under the vibration and acceleration forces of vehicle transport. The mirror should travel in a vehicle compartment where it will not shift during braking.

Keyhole slot adjustment at the new position

One advantage of the keyhole slot system for remounting is the lateral adjustment range. If the new anchor positions are not perfectly centred on the original stud layout, the keyhole slot allows ±7mm lateral adjustment from the anchor centreline, giving a total lateral range of approximately 15mm. This tolerance is usually sufficient to align the mirror with tile joints or cabinet edges without redrilling.

If the mirror is not sitting level after hanging, the keyhole system allows vertical adjustment by changing the screw depth — tightening one screw and loosening the other shifts the mirror slightly. Use a spirit level and make adjustments in small increments.
